Film Poster and representation

Lo : to analyse the film poster for key representations

A typical male hero in a spy action film. - masculine, strong, suit and tie, smart, loads of gadgets, young, sophisticated language, nonchalant, stealthy.

Explore how the film poster for No Time To Die uses the following elements of media language to create meanings.

A) images
B) mise-en-scene
C) Layout and design.

B) Mise-en-scene

No Time To Die (NTTD) uses mise-en-scene to create meaning through the women's costumes. We can see this by what Nomi is wearing. She is wearing black combat clothing and she's holding gun. Through this we see that women are represented as strong and independent, which is anti-stereotypical. However, we can see Paloma is wearing a more revealing and sophisticated evening dress which could show the sexual objectification of women. This is contrasted by the fact she's holding a gun which is anti-stereotypical. This links to gender equality and representations of women which links to the meaning.

  • Nomi being the new 007 was reported prior to the film release but this led to a minority of racists trolling the actor Lashana Lynch online.
  • Only 3 guns and not threatening in the poster as the ASA state that violence shouldn't be glamourised, so they used women to make it seem less dangerous.
